Want to be equipped for some of the biggest issues faced today??
One day electives allow you to specialize in your field of interest in subject areas such as Domestic Violence, Homelessness, Problem Gambling, Alcohol and Drugs, Aged Care and Young People.
These electives can be completed through one day Intensives. They will be available online later this year.

DRUGS & ALCOHOL
CHCAOD001 Work in an alcohol and other drugs context
Be trained with the knowledge and skills to support clients who are affected by alcohol and other drugs.
This course will equip you to have an understanding of the historical and social constructs of alcohol and other drugs, to ensure interventions are person-centred and to support the client’s rights and safety.
CHCDFV001 Recognise and respond appropriately to domestic and family violence
Equip yourself to identify and respond to domestic violence during professional contact with clients.
Build your understanding and knowledge of domestic and family violence, with an awareness of its effects. Be trained to respond appropriately with relevant information and to refer where necessary.
CHCYTH002 Work effectively with young people in the youth work context.
Be trained to support young people by understanding how their experience and environment affect them.
Develop a holistic approach that recognises that events, families and peers impact on the development of a young person, and that the way these systems interact will impact on the growth of the individual.
CHCAGE001 Facilitate the empowerment of older people.
Develop the skills and knowledge that reflects an understanding of the residential aged care sector, the home and community care sector. Identify the key issues facing older people in the community.
By learning about the ageing process and how this can affect people’s behaviour, you will be able to help your clients through providing better services and greater quality of care.
CHCGMB001 Assess the needs of clients with problem gambling issues
Provide support to clients who are affected by a range of problem gambling issues. Develop the knowledge and skills required as a foundation for work in the problem gambling sector.
Learn about the effective treatment options for those experiencing problem gambling.
CHCSOH001 Work with people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Prepare yourself to work with people who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless, including women and children experiencing family violence.
Work with clients to assess the issues and risks impacting on homelessness, and work to identify solutions to issues raised.
